BRISBANE’S health-conscious clique will soon have the chance to satisfy their cravings for paleo sweets and other wholesome treats without sacrificing their wellbeing at a new innovative ‘superfood’ café in Hamilton.
Pineapple Express, due to open late May or early June, is anticipated to add a burst of vitality and freshness to the city’s Portside Wharf precinct by tempting the tastebuds of local foodies with a nutritious menu that is full of flavour, but good for your insides.
Menu highlights will include new paleo twists on traditional sweets, featuring antioxidant rich ingredients such as raw cacao, berries and nuts, as well as other winning bites like zucchini pasta, acai bowls, green smoothies and high-protein dishes.
A fresh colour palette of white, with splashes of aqua and pops of yellow will create a vibrant and youthful setting inside, while surfboards and greenery outside will reflect the group’s love for an active lifestyle.
The new kid on the block, Pineapple Express, became the brainchild of foodies Jonathan Ford, Tom Sweep, Leigh Metzeling, Chris Weight and Jaxon Manual, following their never-ending pursuit to find real, healthy and organic foods in Brisbane.
Co-owner and director of Department Group, Jonathan Ford, said the idea grew from the team’s desire to live a wholesome and nutrient-rich healthy lifestyle that included fresh foods and natural flavours.
“We were really frustrated with how hard it was to find healthy food on the run in Brisbane and we quickly realised we weren’t alone in our search,” Jonathan said.
“It is inspired by an atypical old Queensland style home, with some added funk in the decor and innovative tech ideas, such as design elements that haven’t been done before in Brisbane,” he said.
“It’s about eating food that tastes yum and is good for your insides.”
Health addicts on-the-run will also be able to grab their smoothies at the swipe of a button, thanks to the venue’s innovative ‘Text for Express’ functionality, where customers can order via text and pick up their food at the unique counter.
The boys have teamed up with Tu Projects for the fit-out and have worked extensively to ensure the design is like nothing Brisbane folk have seen before.
Co-owner Chris Weight, a local Brisbane entrepreneur and avid surfer, said the decor was set to be funky, fresh and clean, incorporating state-of-the-art features that the team had been dreaming of implementing for years.
“We all know that you need to be conscious of the food you eat and drink, but often grabbing something healthy between meetings or before work isn’t always convenient,” Chris said.
“It’s a meeting place for people of all ages – a place where you want to bring your friends, your dogs, sit outside in the sun and relax,” he said.
“There will be lots of seating, shared tables and high bars for locals to hang out for as long as they wish, as well as a great easy express window for people on the run.”
The wellness café is designed for anyone who relishes in eating well and is looking for a fulfilling breakfast, lunch or snack, from mums with young children to gym junkies and the everyday commuter.
Pineapple Express will be under construction during March this year, with a launch date yet to be confirmed in April 2015.
